    Description

    I PURCHASED THIS STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL CAKE PLATE FROM A METAL FINISHER IN ENGLAND IN 1968 AT WHICH TIME I HAD IT NEWLY SILVER PLATED.
    SEE HOW LOVELY IT PRESENTS WITH CHRISTMAS FRUIT.

    I was told by the proprietor that the piece was of the Victorian era and used as a cake plate (or basket owing to its shape).  It is stamped on the handle:
    MANCO PLATE…MADE IN ENGLAND.
    It is a simple, but elegant design, rather like an ART DECO style.  The round-footed basket is pierced at each end of the rise with scrolls branching out from a single heart.  The square handle (rounded at the corners) has a full swing to the left and right.
    IT IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL FROM EVERY ANGLE.
    It measures
    10 ¾” long, 7 ¾” at its widest point and 1 ½” deep.
    Even though I had it silver plated 55 years ago

    ou can expect to see signs of use as well as age related wear such as medium to fine surface scratches and the appearance of buffing?
    .
    There is one very very tiny pitted area on the inside base of the basket.I did recently apply a silver polish cream to clean away the accumulated tarnish but it could always use a more thorough cleaning.
